Today, many famous folks gathered at the 2024 Met Gala for glitz and glamour, but Katy Perry wasn't among them. Even though she didn't show up, some eye-catching pictures of her in forest-themed dresses went viral on the X platform. Surprisingly, these pics weren't real they were made by artificial intelligence (AI).
The AI-created photo of Perry fooled many people online, even though she wasn't actually there, and the background didn't match this year's gala. Turns out, the backdrop was from the 2018 Met Gala. Despite that, Twitter users were impressed.

One person tweeted, "I fell for this AI edit at first," and another admitted, "Wait. It's AI-generated?! I got fooled." As views on the image skyrocketed, one user joked, "100k and climbing? Oh, robots are going to eat us alive."
Soon after, another supposed photo of Perry from the Met Gala started circulating on Twitter. People were once again fooled, despite some odd flaws on her thumbs and eyes.

Both fake photos caught Perry's attention; she even "liked" them from her verified Twitter account. Perry went on Instagram and shared a screenshot of a chat she had with her mom, who thought the pictures were legit.
"Perry replied to her mom's text with a playful 'lol mom, the AI got you too, BEWARE!'” Perry shared, as her mom had complimented her gown, comparing her to a float at the Rose Parade.
Later, Perry posted on Instagram, sharing fake pictures and her mom's text. She captioned, "Couldn't make it to the MET, had to work." In the last slide, she shared a video of herself recording music in the studio.
This wasn't the first time, as a similar incident occurred the previous year. Last year, a fake photo of Selena Gomez at the Met Gala went viral on Twitter. The photo showed Gomez wearing a blue dress with pearls, but she didn't actually attend the event. The doctored photo received much attention on social media and even became the most-liked photo on Twitter at the time.
However, it was later discovered that the image was edited, and Gomez's face was photoshopped onto actress Lily James' 2022 Met Gala outfit, designed by Versace. The dress's color was also changed to a different shade of blue.
